A.C.T.S. Group Returns from Mexico

January 12, 2006

The Sports Ministry group at Prairie, Athletes Called To Serve (A.C.T.S.), sent its first sport mission group to Mexico during the last part of the Christmas break. The group left Calgary on New Year's Day on their way to Mexico looking forward to impacting people for Christ through the world of sport. The result was as equally impacting on their lives.

"This was an amazing opportunity for these young student athletes to step outside of their comfort zone and to test their skills that God has given to them." said Bob Murray, Director of SPORT and Athletics at Prairie.

The group who traveled as a part of Christian Outreach International (COI) missions’ organization consisted of sixteen athletes from the 4 sports at Prairie which include volleyball, basketball, futsal and cross country running. The trip was nine days in length and the group was able to compete in games, help community children with skills, do service projects at a local soup kitchen and do street and park ministry throughout the trip.

John Beattie, of the men's volleyball team saw this as a life changing experience, "I would have to say that this was the most amazing experience of my life and I will never forget it!"

Prairie is a leading Canadian centre of higher education for Christians. We equip students to achieve their life, ministry and career purposes and to fulfill their role within the Body of Christ.
