Prairie Serves as Evacuation Center

June 19, 2005

With the Red Deer River projected to rise more than 1.5 metres above flood stage in Drumheller, Alberta, Kneehill County Emergency Services volunteered its assistance and engaged its disaster response plan. As part of that plan, Prairie Bible Institute has made its residence and dining hall services available for any person seeking refuge from the rising water.  More than 2700 people in the Town of Drumheller have been placed on mandatory evacuation orders.

“While we are shocked by the magnitude of this disaster that is due to the recent heavy rainfalls within the province, we have also been moved to help those who have become victims of this event in any way that we can.  Our doors are wide open for any person seeking shelter from these flood waters,” Jon Ohlhauser, President of Prairie Bible Institute.

The Red Deer River is expected to reach the height of its flood stage later on Monday, June 20, 2005.  The full extent of the damage from this disaster will not been known until the waters begin to recede.
