Prairie College of Applied Arts & Technology and Bow Valley College
Sign Historic Agreement
October 18, 2005
Prairie College of Applied Arts & Technology and Bow Valley College have created a unique partnership that will allow Bow Valley College to offer health and childcare programs to Prairie College students.
This historic Memorandum of Understanding between a private and public post secondary institution will be signed at Prairie College at 2 p.m. today in Three Hills, which is located 75 minutes northeast of Calgary. Prairie College President Dr. Jon Ohlhauser and Bow Valley College President and CEO Sharon Carry will sign the agreement in a ceremony, which will be attended by college and government officials, board members and Three Hills dignitaries.
“The Christian higher education scene has changed in Canada,” states Dr. Ohlhauser. “With the complexities of modern ministry, we can only fulfill our historic mission by exploring a diversity of methodologies and finding new and creative ways to open doors to enable the church to reach the world with the gospel of Christ. Prairie College of Applied Arts & Technology will equip students to do just that, both here at home and around the world.”
President Carry notes, “Prairie College’s rural location is ideal for developing in students a passion for serving in rural communities – a need that has been identified by provincial and federal governments. Bow Valley College, with 20 rural locations in southern Alberta, is pleased to partner with Prairie College in this new initiative. Our mutual reputation for excellence and desire to train students for domestic and international industry is an excellent match.”
In September 2006 Prairie will become the first college to offer two-year vocational programs in conjunction with Christian education. Prairie plans to retain the current Bible College as a church ministry preparation college. The college of applied arts and technology will allow students to graduate with a two-year Associate of Arts degree as well as a provincially recognized diploma in their chosen vocational field. The new college will train students for a profession as well as for roles in the international mission of the Church.
Prairie College is a leading centre of higher education for Christians, which equips students to achieve their life, ministry and career purpose and to fulfill their role in the Body of Christ.
Bow Valley College is a fast, focused and flexible educational institution serving more than 11,000 learners annually in Calgary and at locations throughout southern Alberta.
