Pilots Medal at ACAL Championships
December 20, 2005
The Prairie Pilots went into the weekend's game craving a medal and left satisfied as both the men's and women's took home Bronze medals during ACAL championship play in Camrose Alberta on the Augustana campus.

The men captured the bronze by defeating the Olds College Broncos in three straight sets and were led by All-Conference players power Richard Doerksen and setter Tobin Epp. Earlier in the day they lost 3 to 1 against United in a tough match that left the team emotionally drained but they worked hard and pulled out the victory in the Bronze Medal match.
Coach John Riemersma was pleased with the team's play. “The ACAL championship was a good challengefor our team. I believe that we came together as a team and peaked at the right time. Taking a set off of United in the Semi- final and defeating Olds in 3 straight sets was a testament to how far we come since the beginning of they year.”
On the ladies side the Pilots lost a tough match early in the day to Taylor to set up the stage for the battle between Prairie and United for the Bronze Medal. Competition between these teams had been intense all year, during many back and forth battles. On this occasion Prairie prevailed and defeated United 3 games to 1 to take home the Bronze. The Lady Pilots were led by All-Conference selections setter Brittany Schock and middle Glenna Dorey.
Head Coach Merilee Henderson felt it was a successful weekend. “The hard work and determination of these girls paid off as we capture the first ACAL medal in volleyball since 2001.
In other action Augustana Vikings took gold medals in both men’s and women’s, with United taking silver on the men’s side and Taylor placing second on the women’s side.
