Early Learning & Child Care (formely ECE)

A Two-Year Program

Credentials Awarded
Associate of Arts in Religious Studies from Prairie College of Applied Arts & Technology. Early Learning and Child Care Diploma from Bow Valley College.

Overview
The Early Learning and Child Care program is designed to provide learners with a combination of practical skills and theoretical knowledge to enable them to provide high quality developmentally appropriate care to young children.

The first year focuses on providing students with a concrete blending of theory and practice to enable students to be prepared to plan developmentally appropriate activities and programs based on the ages, abilities and interests of the children in their care.

The second year focuses on the continued development of research and writing skills relevant to early learning and child care providers who are able to supervise a program. It is important to recognize that the set of skills required to manage a program or move into a third year post secondary degree program are different than those required from the first year.

Graduates are eligible for Level 3 Child Care Certification.
