Student Orientation Overview
At Prairie, we are committed to your success from the day you first step onto campus until your graduation. Starting with our Weekend of Welcome (WOW), which is held during the first week of your arrival, we will assist you in making the transition to college life. Through a series of seminars and activities we will help you find your way around the Prairie campus, provide you with information about our support services, and review our expectations of you as a new student. As you connect with Prairie’s staff and other students you will discover that Prairie is a very special place
Orientation is required for all new and transfer students.

Orientation Notes
Because you’ll want to get the most out of orientation, here are a few helpful hints to keep in mind.
Take orientation seriously. You might be tempted to think that some of the orientation activities are pointless or lame. However, the people who created these programs understand the kinds of pressures you’re going to face and the resources you’re going to need. So listen hard and give everything a chance.
Get off to a good start with your roommate. You don't have to be best friends, but be polite and always observe good roommate etiquette tips.
Get to know your IMPACT Leader. This is an experienced upperclassman who is here to help you, so don't be afraid to stop by their place to ask a couple of questions and to introduce yourself.
Get off to a good start with the people on your floor. You're going to be living in close proximity with these people, so be friendly and polite.
Get the lay of the land. Take a walk around campus and the town of Three Hills. Make sure you figure out where your classes are going to be held.
Branch out. Don't just hang out with your friends from high school or your home town. Get to know new people.
Call your parents. They miss you as much as you miss them, if not more. This experience is going to be hard for them too. Let them know you are okay and that they haven't lost their baby forever.
Expect some homesickness and a sense of being overwhelmed. This is natural. Everyone else feels the same way too. Remember your IMPACT Leader and Director of Student Development are always there to help.
