A Man After God's Heart: Re-examining a Popular Yet Problematic Interpretation
If David had a heart like God's, then how do we justify some of the rather unethical things that he did? Who is the real hero of David's story. David or God? We will examine the phrase "a man after His heart" (1 Sam 13:14) in its immediate and larger context to determine how best to interpret the biblical character of David. |

Does Ephesians 4:12 teach that every Christian has a ministry?
Ephesians 4:12 consists of three phrases that indicate why Christ gave the Church apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers. Recent translations assume that the second phrase is dependent on the first, so that together the phrases refer to equipping the saints for the work of ministry. We will look at evidence that suggests that the three phrases ought to be seen as coordinate, in which case, the ministry mentioned is not the ministry of the saints but of the apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers. |

Word of God or word of man: Preaching as the Word of God in the thought of Karl Barth
Karl Barth claims that preaching (proclamation) is (should be) the occasion of the Word of God-- preaching is the Word of God! Barth's understanding of the nature of the Word of God as developed in his Dogmatics has an experiential and pastoral concern at its base. This fact can be obscured by the philosophical/theological commitments that inform the Dogmatics. Therefore, an attempt will be made to read Barth's position on preaching as sympathetically as possible, in order to present any helpful, positive insights to the task of understanding of the commission and calling of preaching today. |

Making Peace in a World of Conflict
What does it mean to "Live at peace with everyone" (Rom. 12:18)? In a world torn by war, hatred and conflict God calls us to peace in 3 dimensions-- Peace with God, Peace with others, and Peace within yourself. In light of this is there Biblical advice for resolving personal conflict? What place do lawsuits have in the life of the believer? |
