PURPOSE
The Director of Student Success and Career Services is a position that provides excellent, relevant, and primary leadership in facilitating the mission and student outcomes of the Spiritual Formation Division through academic success and assistance services for Prairie students.

RESPONSIBILITES
As a professional in a salaried position it is assumed that you will have the knowledge, skills, and initiative to achieve the ministry mission without the detailing of specific jobs. The following delineates the major areas of responsibility that you are responsible to fulfill. This role requires service with the character and competence expected of a leadership position. The ministry is to be carried out with the proficiency and care necessary for such serious responsibility.

1. Enable academically challenged students through at least:

  • Implementing policy and procedure that are effective in helping Academic Probation students.
  • Implementing pro-active strategies to assist students in learning.
  • Developing partnerships to assist in diagnosing and helping students with specific academic challenges (e.g. learning disabilities, English Second Language).

 

2. Empower students for academic success through at least:

  • Developing and implementing learning skills workshops.
  • Consulting with faculty and staff regarding learning needs of students.
  • Assessing learning needs of individual students.
  • Facilitating the development of learning strategies.
  • Connect students to relevant support and resource services.
  • Leadership and oversight of the writing center.
  • Implementing learning programs such as tutoring, scribes, and learning partners. 

3. Serve in leadership tasks through at least:

  • Implementing, and controlling the annual budget for this ministry.
  • Preparing and submitting reports as required.
  • Recruiting, selecting, supervising, and evaluating support staff.
  • Facilitating strategic planning and review.
  • Researching current trends, opportunities, resources, and challenges.
  • Proposing, developing, and implementing appropriate new initiatives.
  • Developing and maintaining student files in an appropriate legal manner.
  • Advisor to Student Union Academic Commissioner.
  • Represent the Spiritual Formation Division at the Enrollment Management Committee.

4. Facilitate and support research and writing skills
Support college level skills development in both remedial and entry level college research and writing.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Mission: Knowledge of and enthusiastic commitment to Prairie’s mission, values, doctrinal position, and Community Covenant.
  2. Church: Understanding of and commitment to the local church.
  3. Education: Minimum of a Master’s degree preferred in a field of study related to the ministry description.
  4. Experience:
    • Successful experience in the field related to this ministry.
    • Conversant with the values and skills of a Christ-centred College education.
  5. Character:

    • Ability to work with students who face learning challenges.
    • Proficient computer literacy.
