Prairie’s New College Receives National Recognition

April 24, 2006

At a ceremony held at the University of Waterloo School of Architecture in Cambridge, Ontario on April 18, 2006 Prairie Bible Institute received an honourable mention for the RL Petersen Award from the Bridgeway Foundation for Non-Profit Innovation.

Prairie Bible Institute received an honourable mention for their plans to expand the scope of their traditional educational model with the opening of the Prairie College of Applied Arts & Technology this fall. Dr. Jon Ohlhauser, President, received the award for the college, and was commended for his foresight in transitioning an 80-year institution to meet today’s marketplace realities.

The RL Petersen Awards for Non-Profit Innovation were conceived in 2003 to stimulate innovative best practices in the charitable sector, and are awarded annually to a Canadian charity that meet five criteria relating to innovation, strategy, impact, clear outcomes, and transformation. These qualities were those which inspired the founder of the Bridgeway Foundation, Reg Petersen, for whom the award is named. Each year they name their top choice and two honourable mentions.

Prairie College of Applied Arts & Technology had been listed as a top ten finalist for the R.L. Petersen Award for Non-Profit Innovation (2006). This is the third year for this annual award through which the Bridgeway Foundation honours innovation in the non-profit charitable sector. All of Bridgeway’s approved projects from 2005 were eligible for consideration for this award. The pool of potential winners was narrowed from 52 to the top ten

“This is very encouraging,” stated Prairie President Dr. Jon Ohlhauser. “Receiving an honourable mention for a project chosen for innovation is another affirmation that our new college of applied arts and technology is being recognized as an idea that is not only fresh but one that will be serving a need within the Christian community.”

An independent Awards Committee selected this year’s winners. The award is sponsored by Bridgeway Foundation which annually distributes over $3 million in grants to over 65 charities across Canada every year.
