Prairie Breaks Ground on New Building

April 24, 2006

On Thursday, April 21 Prairie officially broke ground for phase one of the Maxwell Centre. Approximately 200 people gathered under beautiful blue skies to mark the occasion.

“This is an historical day in Prairie’s 84-year history,” stated Prairie President Dr. Jon Ohlhauser to the assembled crowd. “We are excited what this new facility will mean for student programming and services and the efficient operation of the ministry as we move toward accomplishing our mission.”

Jeremy Oaten, President of Prairie’s Student Union stated, “The students are excited to have this new space to enhance our Prairie experience. We are looking forward to what the new service area and the addition of the [College of Applied Arts & Technology] will bring to our campus.”

The Maxwell Centre will be built in two phases. When completed it will be a 75,000 square foot building housing a 1200-seat auditorium, a 200-seat multipurpose hall and a multipurpose performance space.  Phase one includes student services, business offices and specialized training space for the new Prairie College of Applied Arts & Technology.

Clark Builders has been hired to manage the project. Work on the foundation is expected to begin in June with structural steel work beginning shortly after.
