Prairie Students Nominated for Music Awards
October 1, 2007
On September 30, Tim Milner, a Prairie graduate of 1999, was named “Male Artist of the Year” in the Maja Awards, for his recently released CD, Form and Essence. Tim was also a runner-up in the categories of “Best Inspirational / Praise & Worship Recording,” “Best New Artiste,” “Best Alternative / Rock Recording of the Year” and “Contemporary Gospel Recording of the Year.” The Maja Awards are held annually to highlight excellence in the Canadian Gospel music industry and to honour musicians who have dedicated themselves for service to humanity.
Tim, who will be featured in concert at Prairie on October 13th, is a worship pastor at First Baptist Church, Metuchen, New Jersey. His song “Open the Skies” has been nominated in the “Best Worship Song of the Year” category of the upcoming Gospel Music Academy of Canada Covenant Awards, October 27.
Jesse Peters, a Prairie student in the B.A. in Ministry program, was also nominated for Maja Awards in the “Alternative / Rock Recording of the Year” and “Best Urban Gospel Performer” categories, for his debut album Paramedic, which was released earlier this year. The same recording is in the running for the GMA Covenant Awards for “Best Rap / Hip-hop Album of the Year” and “Rap / Hip-hop Song of the Year,” and will compete for “Outstanding Rap / Hip-hop Album of the Year” at the Western Canada Music Awards, October 22.
Both Tim’s and Jesse’s albums were recorded in Three Hills at Craig Learmont’s Musikhaus Studio. Craig’s production of Tim Milner’s Form and Essence recording earned him a Maja Award for “Producer of the Year” and a nomination for a GMA Covenant Award in the same category. Craig is an adjunct instructor for the recording program at Prairie.
