Prairie Hires New Faculty

August 20, 2006

During the summer months, Prairie has been welcoming new faculty on our campus. We would like to introduce you to a few of them...

Old Testament Professor

Reverend Ritchie White (MDiv, MTh) has moved to Prairie to teach Old Testament studies. He has been a pastor for nineteen years in two different churches, a professor in two different Bible Colleges, and an Academic Dean at one of those Bible Colleges. He has been involved in Prairie’s Distance Education Department as a course instructor for a number of years.

“Ritchie and his wife Janine have an excellent track record of working with Bible College students,” states Dr. Dennis Punter, Bible College Dean. “Students are attracted to the wise counsel they so willingly share on matters of life and practice. Ritchie has a great passion to teach the truths of Scripture. They will be a great asset to the Prairie team.”

Research Assistant for Distance Education

Clare Henry is no stranger to Prairie. She graduated last spring from Prairie’s Bachelor of Arts in Intercultural Studies in Leadership and returns this year as a Research Assistant in the Distance Education Department. Clare’s home is Bloomfield, New York.

“Coming back to Three Hills was like coming home after studying here for four years,” says Clare. “I am excited to be apart of Global networking with students who are pursuing studies while working or ministering where God has placed them.”

Dr. Dennis Punter, Bible College Dean, is thrilled about this appointment. “Clare’s work is comprised of important marketing and research in the field of Distance Education as changes are made for future delivery of Christian education through this department.”

Directors for Discover Program

David and Melinda Karlson arrived at Prairie in early August from Greenville South Carolina to take over as directors of the Discover program. They both have an MA in Educational Ministries from Wheaton College; this along with their background in wilderness leadership training and business is a good fit for the demands of the program.

Dr. Dennis Punter, Bible College Dean, states, “I am so excited to have this couple become a part of the Prairie Team. Their personality and skills align with the needs of the exciting Discover program. Their involvement in mission trips to various countries and Spanish language training make them a natural fit for this ministry. ”

The Discover one-year certificate program takes students to Guatemala for hands on work in a cross-cultural setting. They spend half of their year on campus in Three Hills, and the other half on the mission field. Students learn leadership skills, gain competencies in Bible and theology and learn Spanish.

Performing Arts & Worship Faculty

Jamie Hillman (BMus, MMus) has joined the faculty at Prairie Bible College. He is originally from Ontario but comes most recently from University of Illinois were he recently graduated. He has expertise in voice, piano, choral conducting, music history and choral literature. Jamie comes with music related experience in many settings relative to the church and education.

Dr. Dennis Punter, Bible College Dean, states, “We are so pleased to have Mr. Hillman become a part of the music faculty at Prairie, his skills, his exuberance and strong desire to teach others will help youth to be well prepared for future ministry.”

Interim Professor of Philosophy

Adam and Ashley Barkman recently left Toronto, Ontario and journeyed to Three Hills to teach at Prairie. Adam is putting his final touches to his PhD dissertation and Ashley is completing her second Masters degree. This well qualified couple is leaving big city life to follow God’s leading and become a part of rural life in the busy environment of Prairie Bible College.

“Looking back, I found it difficult to believe we could find someone qualified and willing to come for a one year replacement contract to teach philosophy,” states Dr. Dennis Punter, Bible College Dean. “Yet God has supplied this need and more as Ashley is also able to teach adjunct courses as well. What great additions to our Prairie team.”

Professor Barkman is replacing Dr. Myron Penner as he goes on sabbatical for the 2006-2007 academic year.
