Prairie College of Applied Arts & Technology and Olds College Sign Agreement
December 14, 2006
Prairie College of Applied Arts & Technology and Olds College have created a unique partnership that will allow Olds College to offer land and water resource management programs to Prairie students.
This Memorandum of Understanding between a private and public post secondary institution was signed at Prairie College at 2:30pm yesterday in Three Hills, which is located 75 minutes northeast of Calgary. Prairie College President Dr. Jon Ohlhauser and Olds College President and CEO Tom Thompson signed the agreement in a ceremony, which was attended by college and government officials, board members and Three Hills dignitaries.
“The Christian higher education scene has changed in Canada,” states Dr. Ohlhauser. “With the complexities of modern ministry, we can only fulfill our historic mission by exploring a diversity of methodologies and finding new and creative ways to open doors to enable the church to reach the world with the gospel of Christ. Prairie College of Applied Arts & Technology will equip students to do just that, both here at home and around the world.”
President Thompson noted, “Olds College has provided quality education and training to launch successful careers for many generations of learners. Olds College takes pride in making great things happen for our students. The success of our students is our main priority, and everything we undertake meets strict expectations that our graduates will exceed market expectations as they begin their careers. We are thrilled to partner with Prairie. Our mutual reputation for excellence and desire to train students for domestic and international industry is an excellent match.”
In September 2006 Prairie became the first college to offer two-year vocational programs in conjunction with Christian education. The programs from Olds will have a direct application to the fields of agriculture, oil & gas and forestry and will provide Prairie students with the opportunity to seek employment in these fields, apply for service in mission work or enroll in further post-secondary education. The new college of applied arts and technology allows students to graduate with a two-year Associate of Arts as well as a provincially recognized diploma in their chosen vocational field that is awarded by the partnering college.
Prairie College is a leading centre of higher education for Christians, which equips students to achieve their life, ministry and career purpose and to fulfill their role in the Body of Christ.
Founded in 1913, Olds College’s vision is to be the premier Canadian integrated learning and applied research community specializing in agriculture, horticulture, land and environmental management.
