Prairie Launches New On-Line Distance Education Format
July 24, 2006
Prairie is excited to announce that they are launching on-line courses this fall. The first courses offered will be: Introduction to the Old Testament, Introduction to Christian Theology, Introduction to Psychology and Discipling Youth.
These courses, which begin September 4, 2006 and continue until December 22, 2006, are being offered using the Moodle platform.
“Moodle is an industry leader in providing an electronic platform for distance education,” states Associate Dean Dr. Arnold Stauffer. “It creates a way to integrate discussion and collaboration with other students with the course content.”
Online learning attempts to duplicate the advantages of the classroom as students interact with each other and the course instructor in discussing the implications and applications of course content. Students also occasionally work together on some projects. For each Prairie Online course there will be a web site which clearly identifies the discussion and collaboration requirements and evaluation procedure for these.
Prairie was the first Christian college in Canada to offer distance education. This renewed course offering and format will assist it in remaining an industry leading in the coming years. Not only can students complete individual courses, complete degree programs are available through Prairie’s distance education as well.
