Prairie's Performing Arts & Worship Students Hit a High Note

The 2006-2007 school year saw numerous successes for Performing Arts & Worship students. Students of Connie Canfield (piano) and Jamie Hillman (voice) walked away from the Drumheller & District Music Festival with 13 1st place awards and eight 2nd place awards in classes that ranged from Beethoven Sonatas and French Art Song to Oratorio and Music Theatre.
Michelle Bouwers, a sophomore in the Diploma in Music program, was awarded the Wilson Gouge Trophy and the Bob & Vicky Davidson Scholarship (for the competitor over age 18 receiving the highest mark in the entire festival). She also received the Kinsmen Plaque which is granted to the competitor who receives the highest mark in senior vocal classes. Michelle will spend some of her summer rehearsing and performing with the British Columbia Youth Choir.
Tina Alexander, a junior in the Diploma in Music program, was awarded the Drumheller & District Music Festival Plaque for receiving the highest mark in Opera and Light Opera classes. She was recommended by the adjudicator to advance to the provincial competition, which takes place at the end of May in Edmonton. Additionally, Tina was accepted into the Bachelor of Music program at the University of Lethbridge where she will study voice with Dr. Anthony Radford. She will spend a portion of her summer rehearsing and touring with the Ontario Youth Choir.
Prairie Bible Institute’s Women’s Choir, C(h)oeur des femmes, also competed and garnered one of the highest marks of the festival.
