Prairie Welcomes Premier Ed Stelmach to Campus

June 28, 2007

Prairie was pleased to host Premier Ed Stelmach on campus today. Premier Stelmach toured Prairie's new Maxwell Centre with President Dr. Jon Ohlhauser.

"We are thrilled that we had the opportunity to share with the Premier the vision of Prairie and it's new college, Prairie College of Applied Arts & Technology," stated Dr. Ohlhauser. "Not only does brokering existing programs create efficiencies and reduce infrastructure costs, it also makes programs traditionally available in urban centres accessible to rural students. When students study careers like healthcare and resource management in a rural setting they are much more likely to look for employment in a rural setting upon graduation, providing needed skills in rural Alberta."

Dr. Ohlhauser also stated that he felt the Premier was impressed when he heard of the quality of these programs. The first class of Practical Nursing students enrolled in Prairie College of Applied Arts & Technology partner program with Bow Valley College has scored the highest examination test scores Bow Valley has ever seen.

While in Three Hills the Premier also addressed the Prairie Christian Academy graduating class and marked the launch of the Three Hills Virtual Learning and Business Centre.
