Prairie School of Mission Aviation
Learn to use one of the most effective missionary tools of the last century to transport the love of Christ into the remote corners of the world. Extraordinary conditions require pilots with extraordinary levels of skill, dedication, and discipline. True to Prairie's mission, Prairie School of Mission Aviation (PSMA) offers missions-focused training and a team of staff that includes missionaries with invaluable field experience--something not emphasized in other flight programs.
PSMA offers a two-year (six-semester) Associate of Arts in Mission Aviation. For more information on the program, click here.
Reputation
Prairie is pleased to offer excellent value for your flight-training dollar. At PSMA, we are concerned with providing not only the minimum hours, but rather every single one of your 250 flight hours has a specific learning objective. Prairie’s program exceeds Transport Canada’s requirements by continuing to develop new skills throughout the entire program. A recent Transport Canada audit indicated that, on average, Prairie students score higher on both their flight tests and written scores as compared to students at other Transport Canada licensed facilities across the nation.
PSMA Offers:
Private Pilot License, Commercial Pilot License, Instrument Rating, Single Engine & Multi-Engine Rating, Night Rating, Instructor Rating, Tailwheel Aircraft Training, Full-Motion Simulator Training, Mountain Navigation Training, Unimproved Airstrip Training, Emergency Maneuvers Training, experienced instructors and mentoring relationships.

Faculty
Instructing staff includes those who have experience both in North American commercial aviation and in overseas mission aviation. They are readily available to guide and mentor you as you prepare for a career and ministry in aviation. Complete staff and instructor bios can be found here.
Fleet/Facilities
Aircraft handling skills are learned in traditional training aircraft such as the Cessna 172, the more challenging Citabrias, and the high performance Piper Seneca. The addition of a Redbird FMX full-motion simulator (the first in Canada) is a well used piece of equipment that helps acclimatize students to instrumentation and procedures before even leaving the ground. Here is a complete listing of our current equipment:
Citabria 7ECA
Citabria 7GCBC
Cessna 172M (2)
Cessna 172S
Piper Seneca
Redbird FMX Full-Motion Simulator
Location
Prairie’s rural location is ideal for flight training, yet is close to major airports in Calgary and Edmonton to allow for experience in busy air traffic environments. The Canadian Rockies, a short flight to the west, are used to develop crucial mountain-flying skills. Thanks to our location in Southern Alberta, Prairie pilots enjoy more days of flyable weather than much of Canada.
Expanded Opportunities at PSMA
As a full-featured flight school, PSMA offers additional training opportunities outside of the Private and Commercial training and standard ratings. PSMA also offers instructor rating, multi-engine rating and acrobatic rating. We can also help with pilot re-certification. For more information contact us at aviation@prairie.edu or 403-443-2349.
